The questions we ask before we recommend anything

QuickBooks comes in several versions, and so does Xero. The right one depends on how your business actually runs — not on which plan has the longest feature list. Here’s what we look at first.

01

Do you send invoices, or just get paid?

Cash and card at the job site needs far less than billing customers and chasing payments.

02

Do you pay bills on terms?

If vendors bill you and you pay later, tracking what you owe becomes a must-have.

03

Who else needs access?

A spouse, a partner, an office manager — the number of people who log in often decides the version.

04

Do you have employees?

Payroll changes the setup more than almost anything else.

05

Do you sell products or track jobs?

Inventory and job-by-job profit are the features people most often pay for too early — or discover too late.

06

How busy is your year?

A few dozen transactions a month, or seasonal swings, can mean a much lighter and cheaper option.

QuickBooks Ledger

Low-volume and seasonal businesses that don’t invoice. We keep the books; you keep the savings. The lowest-cost way into QuickBooks.

Xero

A strong option for very tight budgets that still need invoicing and day-to-day tools.

QuickBooks Online

Several versions that add users, bill pay, inventory, and job tracking as you need them. We’ll match you to the one that fits — and tell you when you’re paying for more than you use.

Software makers change their plans and prices often. We confirm current details with you before you sign up for anything.

What “quick questions” means

Anything we can answer in about 15 minutes — “Can I deduct this?”, “Should I set money aside for taxes?”, “What does this letter mean?” Bigger work, like research, projections for a major decision, or amended returns, is quoted before we start. We reply within one business day.

Consulting & project work

Help beyond the books

Running a small business means dealing with a lot more than numbers. When you need an extra set of hands, we’re available by the hour.

$85–$125/hour

Depending on the work. You’ll get the rate and an estimate before we start — no open-ended bills.

Marketing on Google

A practical plan for your Google Business Profile and ads, built around your budget.

Websites

Design, updates, and ongoing management of your business website.

Getting paid

Following up on open invoices so money you’ve earned actually comes in.

Paperwork

Help with outside forms and applications — licenses, renewals, vendor and bank paperwork.

Computer help

Setup, troubleshooting, and data cleanup — backed by years as a database manager.

Something else?

If it’s slowing your business down, ask. If it’s not something we do, we’ll say so.

Not sure which plan fits?

That’s what the free consultation is for. Tell us how your business runs, and we’ll recommend the plan and software that make sense — even if that’s the smallest one.
